Oh boy. Antares.

So it turns out a guy that appeared to be helping Xsera out, Chris Pickel / Sfiera / Pallas Athene, has really been working on his own version of Ares X. And he calls it "Antares". So forget about the whole authenticity issue, Xsera's going to rock the socks off Antares. Right now Alistair and I are working on some pretty nifty warping distortion effects unlike anything in the original Ares. We will also have the old warping style, but I think once you see the new, you'll like it too much ;)

So yeah, Sfiera... it's on. So on.

... and don't copy our source. That would be very cheat-y.

  1. Eh, Antares'll own, just like Ares does. You can't beat the original.

  2. Thanks for your overwhelming vote of confidence :P

I just wanted to add to this by saying that my initial reaction to this is more heated than how I feel about it now - I understand that it was a bad miscommunication error, and Pallas is still a part of the Xsera team; his knowledge of the Ares data system is invaluable.

As far as which game will be better - we'll have to see, really. Xsera will probably have an advantage over Antares in that it will be more flexible and extensible (because it's being built on a engine written from scratch, whereas Antares is being written from old yucky C source), but Antares will have a very genuine Ares experience. We're definitely trying to blend the experience with Xsera and make it feel just as vibrant as the original.

Thanks for reading, by the way!:)
